Good evening!
I just wanted to propose to everybody to add our classmates on facebook.
I think it's another way to keep in touch if some of you decide( or not) to stop using this blog
This is just a proposition, so if you want to keep in touch with some of ( or all) your classmates, just add them on facebook.
As for me, I will accept all the ones who add me, or give me your true name if you want me to add you instead.
Moreover, Facebook will permit us to exchange our photos, or feelings about Brighton or other cities...
Thank you for reading this post!

Brighton...
I've been here for 2 months. I couldn't imagine that some day I'd fall in love with this city. Hopefully it's happened! I have a month left, but already I don't wanna go back to Russia, go back to my routine.
So....Talking about Brighton what can I say? - Amazing!!! Wonderful!!! Fantastic!!! Marvellous!!! Unfortunately my poor vocabulary cannot allow me to write more words for describing this place! I've never thought some day I'd get here. I always imagined myself in London! But I was wrong! Brighton is a perfect place for living!!! Of course London is the best city for working, shopping and working again!!! BUT BRIGHTON....
Now, about Embassy! I think our school is the best in the UK! First of all look at the building! So much space! Lots of windows! Like a castle in the sky! Here you can feel free =)
Teachers... They’re like friends, professors, tutors in one person! Just like a big international family!
Believe me!!! Some day I'll come back! Some day!

And what about the sick jokes of Michael Jackson’s death ?????????
Sorry, Mike! I've never listened to your musics. :D
To show how Bizarre he was... Try this video (he was still black1)
I don`t have time enough to post the video, then, here is the link:

Let down!
Talking about feelings… I was once more “googling” some ideas, when I typed “let down” – a phrase we learned last week. And, again, I ran across something I wouldn’t expect to find! That’s a song of Linkin Park – a band I like, despite my age! :)
Here are the lyrics:
“And the tears fall like rain Down my face again Oh the words you wouldn't say And the games you played With my unfoolish heart Oh I should have known this from the start Oh the winter and spring Going in hand in hand Just like my love and pain How the thought of you cuts deep within the vein Oh this brand new skin stretched across scared terrain I don't want to be let down I don't want to live my life again Don't want to be lead down the same old road So I don't want to be let down I don't want to live my lies again Don't want to be lead down the same old road All those years down the drain Love was not enough when you want everything What I gave to you and now the end must start Oh I should have listened to my heart 'Cause I don't want to be let down I don't want to live my life again Don't want to be lead down the same old road So I don't want to be let down I don't want to live my lies again Don't want to be lead down the same old road ”
Writing the “song review”, I`d say that this song itself let us down – as well as most of Linkin Park songs. So, if you want to memorize the meaning of this word, you should read the lyrics and also listen to the music. Nevertheless, if you don`t want to cry or only want to cheer up, just avoid it!

Honesty

First of all, Hi:D
I'm here to share my experience in Embassy school, at Brighton, the city that won my heart!
Embassy is in dead a interest place to study, people from every where, that things diferent from each other. It's unique have the oportunity to get to know mixed cultures especially understand there traditions, what they think about manners, about what is ungentlemanlike, unladylike. Is in dead amazing. Today is my last day in this school, and to be honest I won't miss much but it was definitily a good experience. My heart now belongs to Brighton, I totally fall in love with the city and I look forward to come back here next here and live in this cosmopolitan city with crazy weather:D
Feelings!
How to post video
Amanda asked about how to put a video in a post ('embed'). We tried it out and had a bit of trouble using the regular way. However, I think I've figured it out now. Here are the steps:
- Go to a video on somewhere like YouTube (the one I've given above can be found by following this link).
- On that page, find 'embed' (near top right and the user name 'casualtyofdesign').
- Copy the code in the box, which starts with ...object width="425"...
- Paste that code into Microsoft Word and copy again.
- Click on 'New Post' in your Dashboard.
- Paste the code you copied from Word.
- Write some comments about the video and click publish - you're ready to go!
If you don't want to put any videos on yourself, you can watch the one above, from a typical sushi restuarant in Tokyo. This is like the kind of place I used to go for my lunch in my teaching job there.
Different english accents!
Hello everyone!!
Wow, this is my first time writing a blog so sorry if i do something wrong!I decide to put here for you classmates a short movie that show 21 differents english accents (like we studied in the first week - this will be an opportunity also for those who werent in the class too)!
Local accents are part of local dialects. Any dialect of English has unique features in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. The term "accent" describes only the first of these, namely, pronunciation.Non-native speakers of English (This refers to us classmates haha)tend to carry over the intonation and phonemic inventory from their mother tongue into their English speech.Among native English speakers, many different accents exist. Some regional accents are easily identified by certain characteristics.Further variations are to be found within the regions identified below; for example, towns located less than 10 miles (16 km) from the city of Manchester such as Bolton, Oldham and Salford, each have distinct accents, all of which form the Lancashire accent, yet in extreme cases are different enough to be noticed even by a non-local listener. There is also much room for misunderstanding between people from different regions, as the way one word is pronounced in one accent (for example, petal in American English) will sound like a different word in another accent (for example, pearl in Scottish English).
Distribution of the English language in different countries of the world:

Like the picture shows,English language is distributed over all or planet earth! Our challenge is to understand what the natives speak and communicate with them well!Good luck everyone.. xx

The expression "Worth it"
I have a lot of doubts when talking about the expression "worth it". Maybe my doubts come from the habit I have of using this expression all the time in my native language - as well as many of my Brazilian fellows. We also have songs with this expression! Hopefully, when the other Brazilian students read it, they will remember at least two of them. However, Brazilian habits and music is not the aim of this post! As a result, let`s go back to what really matters!!!
Well, I was trying to look for more information about this expression, when I came across this slogan: "Because you're worth it". That`s L’Oréal's famous advertising slogan. Believe it or not, I couldn`t find any resourses to explain the use of this expression. I was only able to find examples of its uses. L`oreal was one of these examples. I can also mention "Is marrying for money worth it?" or last, but not least "Afghanistan deaths: Is it still worth it?".
I hope this post is worth it for you, worthy learners!

COURT CHARADES / Monty Python
In our second week the topic was EMOTIONS and inside this topic we tried to learn a little bit more about British comedy through old TV programmes. We can say that the base of British comedy is sarcasm, they love to laugh about the misfortunes of other people especially famous people, make sick jokes or just be sarcastic. There are a lot of programs but during the week we focused on Monty Python and Fawlty towers….. They are old programs but it’s useful to understand where British comedy comes from. This is an episode of Monty Python and a clear example of British comedy, I hope everybody likes it.

Llanfair P. G.
Do you know what it means??? hahaha! I didn't know too! =))
This's the name of this world-famous station and village was created in the early nineteenth century by a local humorist.
The name in Welsh is:
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
which in English means
'Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of Saint Tysilio near the red cave.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a village on the island of Anglesey, in Wales which has the longest name in the UK and the third-longest in the world. For most purposes, however, the name is abbreviated to Llanfair PG (or Llanfairpwll among Welsh speakers) which is sufficient to distinguish it from other Welsh places named Llanfair.
Suprized??? I was flabbergasted!!!
hahahah))) Try to pronounce =)))

The first post
Good morning class and welcome to your new blog!
We're going to fill this up today with things that we've learnt about over the past one, two or three weeks. As a reminder (and for those who have been in class for less than three weeks), our topics were 'Globalisation', 'Emotions' and 'Manners'.
Once today's lesson is over, you can either forget about this blog and leave it to hang around on the Web, or you can add to it with new things that you learn from your English study. If you do, it can also be a way to stay in touch with your fellow classmates when you've all gone on somewhere else.
Perhaps you're new to blogging. Google Blog Search is a place you can go to for finding blogs on your topic of interest and getting a feel for what they're like.
Maybe you'd like to know how to add a link, like the ones above or this one to the Embassy CES website.
It doesn't have to be just text. You can also add pictures to your 'post' (blog entry), like the one below of Brighton station. Flickr.com is a good source of pictures, and if you use ones with a Creative Commons licence then people are happy for you to use their pictures in your work (so long as you mention their name).

If you really want to spice up your post, you could even add video to it. Remember the happy song between Mr Bush and Mr Blair?
Of course, you may know all of these things already and so don't need me to tell you how to do them. If not though, please feel free to ask any questions you might have about how to make your post look more lively.
One more thing to think about when blogging is comments. You can leave a comment at the end of a post to let the writer know what you thought about it. Comments are useful ways to get online conversations going. If you leave one on somebody else's post, they may be more likely to do the same on yours.
So, what's next?
Well...you've got your list of keywords covering the past three weeks. Feed them into Google and see what comes up. Look for interesting articles related to your keywords. Find videos that give good examples of a new idiom you've picked up. Search for photographs that express some of the body language we've studied. Think of stories from your own life or country related to a topic we've covered. Write about what you find here on this blog. Read other people's posts and comment on them too.
By the end of the lesson, I'd hope to see at least two posts and two comments from everyone. After the lesson, it's up to you whether you choose to carry on or not.
Happy blogging and any questions, please ask!
Dom
